Sources: military spending from the SIPRI database (SIPRI's definition, current dollars); education, health and research from the World Bank (from UNESCO and WHO data), the share of GDP times GDP in dollars for the same year. Education and health are spending by all levels of government, not only the federal budget. Research and development is spending by government, business and others. Columns have different years: international statistics come out one to three years late. The last column is the ratio of the shares of GDP; the years may differ.
